Battery Powered Steam Outline Locomotives

'Betsy'
An Imp Models 9V battery powered model of a small Beyer Peacock, much improved by Tony Reynolds. The heavy white metal body and powerful motor mean that it will pull more than looks prototypical

'Effie'
We can now put an end to the mystery of whatever happened to Sir Arthur Heywood's 0-4-0 15" steam loco Effie.
The loco was acquired by Timpdon and re-gauged to run on 2 foot!
It uses an IP Engineering chassis with a plastic body.

Other Battery Powered Locomotives

'Austin'
A reproduction of a Simplex 20/28 bhp in Leighton Buzzard livery.
The loco is made mainly of brass. The radio control also operates the air horns (well, buzzers) and spotlight.
This loco won the Model of the Year competition at the 16mm Association AGM in 1999.

'Eddie'
This is a bit of a mix of locos, having been built from the scrap box.
Watch the driver - and then wave back!

'Criccieth Castle'
A model of Harlech Castle's twin sister on the Ffestiniog Railway.
It's on an Essel Engineering chassis with a home-made body of plastic and plasticard.
Of course, it has a Timpdon Electronics speed controller

'Harlech Castle'
Based on the famous Baglet-Drewry loco from the Ffestiniog Railway, this engine has proved to be an extremely useful asset.
This model was made by Essel Engineering and is fitted with a Timpdon Electronics speed controller

'Moelwyn'
AnDel Models produce this great loco, which has been modified to run on the auto-shuttle, up & down all day, pulling an apprioriate Ffestiniog Rly vintage train.

'AnDel Works '
Made by AnDel Models, this O&K has been altered to run on the Autoshuttle. The batteries are now in the wagon for a quick swap.

'Bubble-Car'
People often mistake the BMW Isetta as a humorous gimmick. This is far from the truth. In fact, it is a copy of the Rail Taxi that ran on the Leighton Buzzard line in the '60s.

'Father Time'
This freelance, but Ruston inspired, diesel loco is built from brass around a Meccano clockwork motor.

'Scooter Wagon'
This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands and an interesting Bit Box! Believe it or not, there is a prototype for this - but we doubt it was this exact model of scooter and truck. It is very much in the spirit of narrow gauge, however.

'The Colonel'
A scratchbuilt battery railcar which, despite being freelance, is typical of so many prototypes in Colonel Stephen's era.

There are many, many more little battery powered diesels and novelties.

Also, don’t be surprised if you see a visiting loco running on the tracks.

If you want to know something…. …please ask! (we don’t bite)
